For centuries this almost square marketplace has been the main tourist attraction of Toruń.
Its construction started in 1309, on the Teutonic Order’s initiative. The church is presumed to be the most beautiful of all Toruń’s churches.
According to the legend, this medieval fortified tower was built by a Teutonic knight from Toruń as a penance for committed sins.
This gothic church was built by Franciscan friars in mid- 15th century.
The castle was built in 13th century on site of former fortified settlement. That is why it has an unusual horseshoe shape.
