Nicolaus Copernicus

When visiting Toruń, it is essential to go to places connected with the great astronomer Nicholas Copernicus who was born here and spent several years of his life here. Below, we present places connected to this great Pole which are worth a visit: his family house, the Cathedral he was baptised in, the Town Hall  - which has been a central point of the city for centuries, the Copernicus’ statue erected to honour his name more than 150 years ago and also Toruń Planetarium which gives the opportunity to admire the same sky which fascinated Copernicus.

Piwnice, not far way from Toruń, is home to the astronomical observatory, belonging to Toruń University, which is, until this day, very active in doing research of the universe. With the use of a a huge radiotelescope the research work looks completely different compared to centuries ago, though.

Nicholas Copernicus is an extremely important person for our city.
