City Walls and Gates

For centuries the city was surrounded by a vast system of fortifications: walls, gates, barbicans and towers. Nowadays, the best preserved fragment of defense walls is the one by the Vistula banks. There are three gothic gates along this fragment: Cloister Gate, Sailing Gate and Bridge Gate. Plaques on Bridge Gate indicate the level of water during the greatest floods in the history of Toruń.
