Cathedral Tower
monday-saturday: 9:00-16:30
sunday: 14:00-16:30
The 52-metre cathedral tower is a great viewing point. To get there one has to take over 200 steps. On the way up it is possible to see the Tuba Dei bell (the God’s Trumpet) – the biggest Gothic bell in Poland made in 1500. It weighs over 7 tons and is held up by a massive wooden bell construction; an interesting thing is that some of the beams there still have the assembly inscriptions on them left by the carpenters over 500 years ago.
The cathedral tower provides an extensive view of Toruń Old Town and more distant city areas as well as the Vistula river crossing nearby with two steel bridges over it. Perfectly visible from there is the urban system of the Old and New Town with the Teutonic Castle ruins cutting in between the two, previously separate, city organisms.
