Description:

Barbarka is a small forest settlement in the northwest part of Toruń. According to the chronicles, in the thirteenth century St. Barbara made a revelation there to the local hermit and this fact is commemorated by a historic chapel. During the interwar period Barbarka was a very popular place of relaxation for the citizens of Toruń. However, in the first days of the Second World War the forests there became the place of martyrdom for 1000 Polish patriots from Toruń and its surroundings. Nowadays Barbarka is a popular place of recreation and rest. In its ‘Forest School’ the visitors can rent a bicycle, organize a campfire or barbecue or go mushrooming in autumn. In the nearby forest, touristic-educational paths are prepared and a local accommodation base offers affordable quarters. The Rope Course of Barbarka is also very popular. It consists of two loops: a small one for children – 7 obstacles and a large one with 17 obstacles.
