Festivals of Toruń

Festivals of Toruń

There is such a lot going on here regardless of the season! From January to December, among Toruń attractions, one can find many events the city could not do without. Obviously, most events take place in the summer season and are located in the Old Town area – the entrance is also in most cases free of charge. From one-week long festivals, happenings, concerts and discussion panels to seasonal fairs and conventions – below we present the most important cyclical events in Toruń.

Obviously, such a short review of the year does not include the full offer since there are many more events. Full list of events and their dates can be found here.

We also encourage you to browse through the event calendar systematically – we hope that each interested guest will find something for themselves.

January and February are most of all cycles of classical music concerts and festivals connected to winter holidays for children and the activity of Toruń Symphony Orchestra.  In this period among all, Valentine’s Day and carnival concerts take place.

March and April period is the first wave of open-air events and the beginning of the tourist season. The most important event in these months is definitely Toruń Festival of Science and Art which helps to wake up intellectually after a lazy winter.

In May and June the citizens of Toruń receive a great dose of poetry and classical music thanks to May Poetic Buum in Od Nowa club and Film Song and Ballad Festival. For those who prefer physical activities more, the Music Festival creates many opportunities for dance and Toruń City Days in June bring numerous interesting surprises.

July and August continue the summer streak of open-air events and offer big festival names. The most important one – Bella Skyway Festival – year after year brings more and more people to Toruń and finds new better ways to make the city shine for several nights in a row. For those who are excited for culinary experiences, Toruń Gingerbread Festival may turn out to be more interesting, during this festival Toruń prides itself on the history, tradition and all variations of this unique pastry. At the same time as gingerbread, blues and jazz rule the city streets - in August Harmonica Bridge begins the cycle of concerts with the participation of famous harmonica virtuosos.

Early autumn is a very active event period – European Heritage Days, Tofifest festival called ‘the Polish Sundance’ and fantasy convention Copernicon take place one after the other. September and October are the last chance for open-air events so organisers often benefit from the end of the tourist season to attract guests to festivals and shows in the streets of Toruń.

November and December, despite seasonal worsening of the weather and winter time shift, do not slow down. Massive Toruń Book Festival guarantees positive literary experiences, however, when it comes to music, it is not quiet either – in November the city hosts Toruń Blues Meeting. The theatre organises also Toruń One-Actor Meetings and in Dwór Artusa Forte Artus Festival begins and lasts until the beginning of December. It is also worth remembering about the Christmas offer of the city – it is at this time when the city puts on the decorations and Christmas concerts, fairs and meetings take place.
